Have you had a person that you have trusted to speak into your life and help you grow spiritually? Have you experienced the joy of building into the life of another? In Why YOU should mentor: A Mentor’s point of view, we interview special guest Ralph Barnett. Ralph is my mentor. He speaks eloquently to the importance and value of this role for the mentor and mentee alike. He breaks down some common misunderstandings. We openly discuss our experience, the things we have done, and how we have each benefited spiritually and grown. Enjoy this uncommon, intimate view into a real relationship. You will find a wealth of insight and inspiration as to the nature of these relationships; how they are shaped; how natural, practical, and unburdensome they can be; how they can be sought and initiated by either the mentee or mentor.
In Season 1 Episode 5, I shared the mentee’s perspective on these important, often underestimated but needed relationships. Here, we muse that we’re two men on a journey, two men seeking God together intentionally and authentically. Mentoring is equally relevant and important to women, too. In his oft encouraging way Ralph states, “…we are not close to perfection. But, we might be a little further along in our experience. We might be a little further along in our wisdom and be able to share that. Find somebody to mentor, a generation before us. The value of that is incalculable.”
Please feel free to offer your questions, thoughts and experiences in the comments section. You may also contact us via the contact page. Ralph and I will be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
