Quoting Hebrews 11:1, Stephen Welch of the Pacific Garden Mission, reminds us that, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This is the authentic story of a man who at one point lost hope. Privileged to have a storybook childhood, growing up in the Christian home of a pastor, Stephen went on to college where philosophy classes led him question his faith. Then as an accomplished businessman, Stephen’s values shifted to worldly success. When his world crashed he turned to alcohol and hit bottom hard losing everything – family, home, and position. Completely broken, without hope, by the grace of God, he was rescued by the Pacific Garden Mission and rediscovered the love of Jesus. “Though it didn’t seem it at the time, looking back… it wasn’t an end. It was a beginning,” says Stephen. Today he impacts many lives for Christ as a leader at the mission and he encourages us in Lifted Up by Christ; Blessed at the PGM with his testimony.
