Christmas is upon us. Christmas concerts are everywhere, music is playing, the rush to finish shopping is afoot. In spite of all of our commercialism, Christmas is still marked by an outpouring of good will on the part of many people. It is a time of sharing, of generosity, of selfless reaching out. The tradition of gift giving is, of course, a reflection of this spirit. But just how did the exchange of gifts get started and why do we give gifts? What do they mean and what is a selfless gift anyway? In Just What’s in a Gift? we explore this grand tradition and how it is that our modern Christmas merges the secular with the greatest of gifts, the holy Child, the Son of God, Jesus Christ – the real reason for the season!
Much of what we enjoy about Christmas today comes from a melding of traditions from many cultures and secular origins. I invite you to listen in on this podcast. You’ll not only learn about these traditions but that a gift is so much more than what’s in the box. Friends, Jesus is indeed the gift of God. His love ran so deep, that it would lead to a cross where He would give His life for you and for me. I wish you many blessings during this holy season. Have a joyous Christmas.
