When we take the time to observe the simple things in life, they can impact us, even spiritually. A Christmas Bloom at Easter is a muse about my family’s confused Christmas cactus that blooms at Easter each year. In the past I have often thought separately about Christmas and Easter. This year, a simple bloom illuminated by an early ray of spring sunlight while I had my morning coffee, moved me beyond a superficial understanding of Christmas and Easter; that they are one story, of one very relevant life, then and now, the reality of Jesus Christ. I pondered my recent life experiences with God, the transition of the seasons – winter to spring, and understood that my faith was inextricably connecting the love expressed in the stories of Christmas and Easter into actions fueled by gratitude for not only what was done, but what was accomplished. Hear how my understanding of faith that acts deepened through a simple observation made from a plant I see every day but almost never notice.
