August 6th and 7th, I attended the 2015 Global Leadership Summit. It is a Christ-centered leadership event which since it’s inception has expanded to satellite broadcast worldwide in over 105 countries and some 250,000 attendees. It has grown because it’s purpose is to address the need to encourage leaders not only in their function, but in their faith, and yes the two can be integrated. How will the lives of others be better because you are on this earth? Just profound. The event boasted Bill Hybels, well known research professors, business executives, and a number of best-selling authors. While rapid growth is often not absent of controversy, the Willowcreek Association has had some of its own over the years. It has, however, remained true to its biblical roots and scriptural ethics.
This podcast will share key takeaways from the event as well as a lite review of the content. In the end there are several age old themes that come through; we need people, it is better to give than to receive, when we become leaders we forfeit any right to make excuses, everybody benefits when leaders improve, our minds can deceive us sometimes, and when we give it all to Jesus our insufficiency becomes abundance. Listen with pen in hand! No matter what you lead, hope to lead, or participate in, there is something here for everyone. Listen to the review then enjoy the Grander Vision videos below and checkout the exercises and books.
Books I recommend from the Summit speakers:
Grander Vision Topics
Warden Angola Prision – Nathan Burl Cain
Warden Cain is a leader who came into a position that he did not want at the Louisiana State Penitentiary Angola Prison. It was widely known as the bloodiest prison in the nation. Hear the story how under his leadership and will to follow God and biblical principles for moral rehabilitation, the prison is now the safest, most secure and progressive maximum security prison in the United States.
Betenbough Homes – Ron Betenbough
Check out this wonderful story of a business that opened a “portal” to function as a ministry in the marketplace. “Commit your relationship in the marketplace to Christ. Lives will be transformed. They even provide opportunities for staff to experience missions. Talk about creating meaning! This video tells the great story of difficult times and how they came to put God first in their business by giving away as much as 82% of their profits.
